Day Alone With God

Just finished up a day alone with God. It was good stuff. Here's what it consisted of...

1. About an hour of brainstorming for Preteen Camp
2. Journaled about 3 pages of deeper thoughts
3. Worshipped to a few songs whose lyrics have been resonating with my heart recently.

The following are a few quotes from this book that I really liked. I will be blogging more about this book in the upcoming days...

“The spirituality of most current discipleship models often only adds an additional protective layer against people growing up emotionally.” (15)

“The sad reality is that most of us will not go forward until the pain of staying where we are is unbearable.” (21)

“To feel is to be human.” (26)

“Some of our Christian beliefs and expectations today, have, as Thomas Merton wrote, “merely deadened our humanity, instead of setting it free to develop richly, in all its capacities, under the influence of grace.” (27)

“Doing for God in a way that is proportionate to our being with God is the only pathway to a pure heart and seeing God (see Matthew 5:8).” (32)

“In some ways the silence of unconcern can be more deadly than hate.” (37)

“The vast majority of us go to our graves without knowing who we are. We unconsciously live someone else’s life, or at least someone else’s expectations for us.” (66)

“When we deny our pain, losses, and feelings year after year, we become less and less human. We transform slowly into empty shells with smiley faces painted on them.” (70)

“The journey of genuine transformation of emotionally healthy spirituality begins with a commitment to allow yourself to feel.” (70)
