"Kids In Need" - It's Overwhelming!

One of the challenges we face as an NMC Student Ministries Staff as we dive into a year of empowering students to seriously address the issues of kids in need around the world, is in determining what causes we come beyond and which ones we don't. The opportunities are endless. The need is massive.

I was overwhelmed by the needs that exist in our world as I read this email from one of NMC's global partners, Verdon Brewer, President of WorldHelp. The title of the email was "State of Emergency in Guatemala."

Verdon received the following letter from a friend and ministry partner who is on the ground in Guatemala. According to Verdon, he has saved thousands of children through his Child Rescue Center in Guatemala.

Vernon,

I have been working for the past 2 weeks in the mountains of Guatemala rescuing the less fortunate. I have been in the areas with the highest rate of malnutrition at this moment, 5 states in Guatemala have been declared in a state of emergency due to the lack of rain. There will be no corn or beans for the poor people who live in these regions they have lost the little livelihood they relied to survive and slowly they are dying.

During this time there will be hundreds of thousands of children going to bed with empty stomachs. Thanks to people like you who labor to help us battle this problem we continue to work strongly. Please pray for Hope of Life and for the people of Guatemala while we face this difficult time.

Now more than ever I ask for your prayers, dozens of children are dying due to malnutrition and surely without your prayers and support many more lives will be lost. This past weekend the battled ended for 2 of our children, the 1st an 8 year old girl weighing 23 lbs and the 2nd a 14 year old girl weighing only 40 lbs.

The next 4 months are crucial and we will see more and more children suffering from severe malnutrition and heartbreaking many will die. We will do our best to save as many lives as we can. Please pray that our Lord keeps us strong and full of faith to continue forward.
