Cultural Lies Men Believe

This comes from a series of messages by Joe and Paula Ehrmann titled, "Journey: from hurt to healing to wholeness." Joe Ehrmann was the central figure in the book, "Season of Life" that has been talked about around NMC much lately. Click here to visit his ministry website.

One of the things that Joe & Paula discuss are the cultural lies that men and women buy into today. Here are the ones they said men buy into:

Cultural Lies That Men Believe About What It Means to be a Real Man:

(1) Athletic Ability – Having the size and strength and the ability to compete against other boys and men. Boys who have athletic ability are seen as a little more valuable, a little more worthy, a little more important. Already as young boys, other boys who don’t have the same ability are pushed to the side of the playground and are already getting the message that they don’t measure up as a man.

(2) Sexual Conquest – We somehow see masculinity as being able to use and manipulate girls and young women. We see it as being able to bring them alongside ourselves and to use them to validate some kind of masculine insecurity. We use them to gratify some kind of physical need. This doesn’t make you a man; it makes you a user of people created in the image of God.

(3) Economic Success

Each of these is discussed in greater length in the book, "Season of Life".
