Right now, I'm very convinced that...

the #1 key to being a great youth ministry volunteer is ... availability

I've been having this thought for awhile but now I have a living example to back it up.

When Rachael and I decided at the last minute not to go to D.C. because of my injury, we needed a couple of people to quickly step forward and take are places. One of those who stepped forward was Leslie Yoder.

Leslie and I traded text messages this morning as the team was departing D.C. to begin their journey home. She started by texting me saying, "An amazing trip. Lots of stuff laid down by these awesome kids. Thanks for the opportunity..."

My response back was to make sure she knew that in my mind the thanks goes all to her for being willing to step in at the last minute. Knowing the type of person Leslie is, I affirmed her with the statement "I'm sure you were a huge blessing to the team!"

Her response back to me brought me right back to this whole thing of availability. She finished by saying, "Believe me, I was the lucky one."

KEY THOUGHT: I couldn't help but think how often we miss out on the blessings of God because we are "too busy" or "too distracted" to be available when God calls.

There are huge blessings waiting for those who are "available", just ask Leslie!
