Saturday & Sunday (Sunday at 3:13 PM, Mexico Time)
SATURDAY
We spent Saturday morning doing our 2nd and final day of vacation bible school in the Riveras. The first half of our team ministered in what’s known as “Section 3” of the Riveras with about 40 children (4 to 12 years old) attending VBS and 8 of them giving their hearts to Christ when the salvation message was shared! The second half of the team ministered in “Section 8” of the Riveras with over 100 children attending the VBS, of which over 20 gave their hearts to Christ!
Saturday afternoon half of the team went to a nearby orphanage to do VBS with the children there while the other half of the team enjoyed a little R & R. Saturday evening the entire team went to a park in the Riveras to perform our drama and share testimonies in an outdoor service. Over 100 people attended this event. Five adults gave their hearts to the Lord when the gospel was presented, including a women who was a Jehovah Witness.
Saturday was a very full yet very rewarding day of ministry as it was becoming obvious that the hearts of the Mexican people were winning us over as a team. The team is doing a tremendous job in serving the people of Mexico. The dramas and testimonies of students in particular have been extremely effective tools in presenting the gospel.
While we are very excited about what the Lord is doing, we sense that God has still bigger plans for how he wants to use us in the coming days.
SUNDAY
Today, we returned to the Riveras to hold a Sunday morning church service in the park where we once again shared testimonies and dramas. Several more people gave their lives to Christ and we had the chance to pray with many others including a boy who has cancer. A man that was bed-ridden that a small group of us had prayed over on Saturday night was well enough to attend the service this morning! Following the service, we had a great time of playing with the children (soccer, face-painting, ballooning, etc.). It was clear that as we concluded our time in the Riveras that we had become attached to many of the children and families there and that we would not soon forget them.
This afternoon, we returned to the orphanage but this time the second half of the team went while the other half stayed back for some R & R which was well received since the temperature is over 100 degrees today.
Tonight we are planning to spend an extended time in prayer for the VBS’ that we will be doing in El Millon and Jesus Carranza this next week (Monday through Thursday). We will also be praying for the men of El Millon who we have sensed a particularly strong burden to reach out to. This is an almost entirely unreached group of people in El Millon. We are planning soccer outreaches with the men of El Millon on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
WAYS TO CONTINUE PRAYING
*Team Unity
*Continued Good health – Pray for endurance during long, hot days and that we would sleep well
* Servant attitudes – This has been a major strength of this team. Pray that this continues.
*The Men of El Millon - That a major move of the Lord would begin among the men of El Millon and that we would have opportunities to share Christ with them.
*VBS’ in El Millon and Jesus Carranza - That the many children would attend the VBS’ in El Millon and Jesus Carranza and that many of them would come to faith in Christ.
